The Emmet County Road Commission was established in 1909 and is overseen by a three member board of commissioners. The 43 employees of the Road Commission are responsible for a total of 1,050 miles of roadway which consists of 217 miles of state trunk lines, 244 miles of primary roads, and 589 miles of local roads.

The coloring page contains the message STAY BACK - STAY SAFE as a reminder to kids to stay back from the road when a plow truck is driving by. It is also a reminder for drivers to stay a few car lengths back while driving behind a RC maintenance truck to ensure that the truck driver can see you at all times, allow time to slow down or stop, and avoid obstructing visibility from material release or cloud of snow that trails behind the truck.
